A lovely town situated at the foothills of the majestic Tatra mountains. Located in the valley between the Gubałówka mountain and the main Tatra ridge, it became one of the most important tourist destinations in Poland, and the capital of the Polish mountains. What makes Zakopane so attractive is its location at the base of the Tatra mountains. From here you can start exploring the ridge, no matter whether you are just a casual visitor willing to see Morskie Oko, take a cable car ride to the peak of Kasprowy Wierch, or an experienced hiker trying to climb the most difficult Tatra Peaks.
But Zakopane is not only worth visiting because of natural highlights. The locals, or “Górale”, as they are called, are proud people, patriotic and strong. Their culture and style are unique to the world and definitely worth seeing. You can start with the famous sheep cheese called “Oscypek”, explore the architectural highlights of Zakopane and finish at the beautiful old cemetery at Pęksowy Brzyzek.
