So you got bored with the beautiful scenery of Tatras, had enough of oscypek and crowds on Krupówki street. This post will help you discover other great places within a 1-2hr drive range from Zakopane.
There are two great hiking areas nearby:
1. Babia Góra. The highest peak in Poland outside Tatras. You will face a pretty challenging climb to the top (nearly 1 000 meters!), but you will be rewarded great views once you got there (and the weather is good).
2. Pieniny mountains – low limestone mountain range, overlooking the Dunajec Gorge. Decent views of the Tatras from the top of Trzy Korony, the highest peak in the range. Be prepared for crowds there and wait patiently for your turn on the stairs leading to the viewing terrace. The photo you can see above was taken from the top of Trzy Korony in Ocober 2019.
Dunajec Gorge. By many considered one of the most scenic places in Poland. A 2hr raft ride through a beautiful gorge at the foot of the Pieniny range. Worth a day, but be prepared for crowds.
If you don’t want to explore the Pieniny range nearby, the castles in Niedzicia and Czorsztyn will fill the rest of your day.
